CBD, Alcohol, and Prescription Medication

Have you ever tried a CBD Cocktail?

Your local mixologist has a new ingredient, it’s CBD. It’s a great idea, but do they know the effects behind the mixture? CBD can intensify the effects of alcohol, making one drink feel more like one and a half. Same goes for your Prescription Medication, because “CBD and other plant cannabinoids can potentially interact with many pharmaceuticals by inhibiting the activity of cytochrome P450, a family of liver enzymes. This key enzyme group metabolizes most of the drugs we consume, including more than 60 percent of marketed¬†meds (ProjectCBD)”.

Some medications say don’t mix with Grapefruit,

CBD interacts with other medications, much like Grapefruit, only even stronger. Ask your doctor if your medications are safe to take with Grapefruit, better yet, see if your doctor knows a thing or two about CBD.

The Evidence

An article published in PubMed says:

“Compared to placebo, alcohol and alcohol plus CBD, but not CBD alone, produced significant impairments of motor and psychomotor performances, overestimations of time production and subjective responses indicating an accurate self-perception of their intoxication and deficits…Thus, the inactivity of CBD, a major marijuana constituent, on motor and mental performance and effects also extends to its interaction with alcohol
(PubMed).”
What else can CBD be used for?
